Welcome to the CAE Community of Practice (CoP) for Cyber Research (CAE-R)

CAE CoP-R Mission:

“To collaborate with both the CAE-R Community and the NCAE-C Program Management Office (PMO) to build a Cybersecurity Excellence Community of Practice in Cyber Research (CoP-R) in order to gather and share input from the broader community as well as to provide continuous program improvement".

CAE-CoP-R Ongoing Initiatives:

Get to Know Your Fellow CAE-R

Starting in March 2023, we are establishing the initiative called: “Getting to Know Your Fellow CAE-Rs”, co-chaired by Bo Yuan of Rochester Institute of Technology and Roberto Perdisci of University of Georgia.

Get to Know Your Fellow CAE-R

Join us as we host a monthly series of presentations from our fellow CAE-R institutions to learn about their research foci as well as some of their recent research results. In order to avoid conflicts with the CAE TechTalks, we will hold the "Get to Know Your Fellow CAE-R" events every FOURTH Thursday of each month, from 2pm ET to 4pm ET on Zoom. Preregistration is necessary to attend the events.

Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions @ CAE Community Symposium

The Birds-of-a-Feather sessions will be held at Louisville, Kentucky on April 16-17, 2024.

CAE-R CoP Birds-of-a-Feather Session @ CAE Community Symposium (April 16-17, 2024, in Louisville, KY)

In an attempt to encourage and to facilitate research collaborations among CAE institutions, the CAE-R Community of Practice (CoP) is organizing a few Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions at the upcoming CAE Community Symposium (April 16-17, 2024, Louisville, Kentucky). Sessions are held in parallel, with each session lasting for 1.5 hours focusing on an emerging research topic in cybersecurity.

Research Symposium

The CAE-R CoP Research Symposium will be held at Marriott St. Louis Grand, on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The program chairs are Roberto Perdisci of University of Georgia and Gabriela Ciocarlie of University of Texas at San Antonio.

2024 CAE-R CoP Research Symposium

The 2024 CAE-R CoP Research Symposium will be held at Marriott St. Louis Grand, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, as part of the National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium. The goals of the symposium are to (1) further establish the CAE-R as a community of practice, (2) build a community that involves PhD students, and (3) showcase the excellent research done at CAE-R designated institutions.

Special Topics Workshop

A Special Topics Workshop will be held as part of the 2024 National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium at Marriott St. Louis Grand on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The workshop will identify priority research gaps and objectives that the cybersecurity research community at large can work on together to further understand the potential impacts and develop solutions. Results of the workshop will be briefed the next day on Thursday, October 10, 2024, as part of the CAE-R Symposium.

Call For Topic Nomination - Special Topics Workshop 2024

The CAE-R Community will be running the annual Special Topics Workshop in 2024 in conjunction with the CAE-R Research Symposium on October 9, 2024. Following past years’ practices, the workshop will be restricted to a small number of participants from both CAE-R institutions and government agencies.

For the 2024 Special Topic Workshop, we are seeking nominations of topics of interest from CAE-R faculty as well as representatives from government agencies.

INSuRE (INformation Security Research and Education)

This program is a collaboration between government agencies, national labs, FFRDCs, and CAE institutions to provide students with an opportunity to work on real-world applied research problems. INSuRE aims to improve the workforce readiness of participating students by building skills in applied cybersecurity research, teamwork, communication, problem solving, and project management.

INSuRE (Information Security Research Education) Summer Workshop

Description

In an attempt to provide research education and experience to cybersecurity students from CAE institutions, we are offering two separate intense INSuRE+E research workshops in Summer 2024. Modeled after the INSuRE+E program, teams of students will be working on an applied research problem of national interest mentored by a problem mentor from a government agency. Supervision is provided by a faculty member from a CAE-R institution.
