Welcome to the CAE Community of Practice (CoP) for Cyber Research (CAE-R)

CAE CoP-R Mission:

“To collaborate with both the CAE-R Community and the NCAE-C Program Management Office (PMO) to build a Cybersecurity Excellence Community of Practice in Cyber Research (CoP-R) in order to gather and share input from the broader community as well as to provide continuous program improvement".

CAE-CoP-R Activities at the 2025 CAE Community Symposium:

Birds-of-a-Feather Session

In order to facilitate research collaborations among CAE institutions, the CAE-R Community of Practice (CoP) is organizing Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions at the upcoming CAE Community Symposium.

The Call for Nominations solicits nominations of emerging research topics in Cybersecurity from research-active faculty in the CAE Community who are interested in leading and/or participating in a BoF session of the CAE-R CoP at the 2025 CAE Community Symposium.

Topics of Interest Session

In an attempt to encourage and broaden the participation in the CAE-R Community-of-Practice (CoP), we would like to gather ideas from the CAE-R community as to what topics are of interest to the community. As part of the program, groups will be formed and each group will brainstorm and discuss the relevance of the topic and how it can be implemented.

Panel Session

Following the success of the panel sessions at the 2024 CAE-R Symposium, we are asking members of the CAE-R Community to propose panel topics for a panel to be held at the 2025 CAE Community Symposium.

CAE-CoP-R Ongoing Initiatives:

INformation Security Research & Education (INSuRE)

The goal of INSuRE is to connect government agencies, national labs and FFRDCs (agencies for short) with academic institutions in order to improve cybersecurity workforce skills in research, teamwork, presentation skills and project management; and to advance the state-of-the-art in applied research on problems of national interest.

Get to Know Your Fellow CAE-R

Join us as we host a monthly series of presentations from our fellow CAE-R institutions to learn about their research foci as well as some of their recent research results. In order to avoid conflicts with the CAE TechTalks, we will hold the "Get to Know Your Fellow CAE-R" events every FOURTH Thursday of each month, from 2pm ET to 4pm ET on Zoom. Preregistration is necessary to attend the events.

CAE-R Research Symposium

The goals of the symposium are to (1) further establish the CAE-R as a community of practice, (2) build a community that involves PhD students, and (3) showcase the excellent research done at CAE-R designated institutions.

Special Topics Workshop

The Special Topics Workshop is an annual series of discussions on pertinent cybersecurity research topics headed by members of the CAE-R community, representing multiple disciplines, institution types, and geographic regions. Typically, the workshops are run in conjunction with the annual National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium and feature topics that have been nominated and voted on by CAE-R faculty and representatives from government agencies.

CAE-R CoP Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions

In an attempt to encourage and to facilitate research collaborations among CAE institutions, the CAE-R Community of Practice holds annual Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, typically in conjunction with the annual CAE Community Symposia.

The Birds-of-a-Feather sessions provide the CAE Community at large with a platform to discuss a variety of pertinent and emerging research topics in cybersecurity. Typically, the topics are nominated and voted on by faculty members from CAE-R institutions.
