CfIA Successfully concludes 10th Annual Cyber Security Summit

The Center for Information Assurance (CfIA) successfully hosted its 10th annual Cybersecurity Summit on October 12, 2017 at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the University of Memphis campus. Dr. Dipankar Dasgupta and Dr. Judith Simon, Co-Directors, and Dr. Kan Yang, Associate Director of the CfIA, were involved in hosting this year’s summit and welcomed students and professionals from multiple areas in the Cybersecurity industry.

Speakers

This year’s Summit welcomed professionals from across the nation to give presentations on cybersecurity as it relates to both their organizations and average users. Speakers included Thomas Davis (Service Master), Dr. Judith Simon (University of Memphis), Bob Sydow (Ernst & Young), Steve Crocker (Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare), Ron Cundiff (Vanick), and Professor Gerry Dozier (Auburn University).

Presentations

Presentation topics ranged from increasing cybersecurity awareness to cyber economics and cyber identity. Interactions among the presenters and attendees made it a highly engaging event. The highlight of the Summit was the afternoon panel discussion on cybersecurity in the healthcare industry.  Prof. Dasgupta moderated the panel focusing on the latest cybersecurity issues, how these are impacting the healthcare industry, and how to avoid cyber incidents. The panelists, with a wide range of expertise in healthcare, IT security, and public health, participated in the discussion. The panelists are: Lynette Larkin (St. Jude Children’s Hospital), Steve Crocker (Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare), Dr. Soumitra Bhuyan (University of Memphis), and Brian Elrod (St. Jude Children’s Hospital).
